Tom's journeyman's piece inspires millions online
When social media meets real craftsmanship: a dining table that can be converted into a fully functional pool table – that sounds like a clever furniture concept. For our newly qualified carpenter Tom, it was the perfect project to show what he was capable of at the end of his training.

What began as a journeyman's piece in our carpentry workshop quickly became a real success story: Tom's video about his convertible table has been viewed over 6 million times on our social media channels! Haven't seen the video yet? Then you should watch it as soon as possible:

Craftsmanship with brains
Tom's work is well thought out down to the smallest detail and flawlessly crafted. From the design to the choice of wood to the mechanics, Tom planned and build his journeyman's piece independently – with great precision, patience and passion. We asked him whether he had to take certain specifications into account for the task: “One of the specifications was the movable body. I implemented this by installing the rotating plate in the table frame. I had a total of 100 hours to complete the project.”


​A viral success in numbers
The figures impressively demonstrate that Tom's table is not only impressive in terms of craftsmanship, but also inspires enthusiasm online: with a total of over 6 million views, the post is one of the most successful we have published to date. The feedback was extremely positive across the board. How did Tom feel about his viral success?

But it wasn't just comments that came in, but also genuine enquiries – one of our long-standing customers even asked if the table could be reproduced. And whether the pool table is for sale.

Is the table also for sale?

“No, absolutely not. It's in my dining room at home and is played on regularly.”

Training with prospects
During his training at Solarlux, Tom learned to plan and implement projects independently – skills that stood him in good stead when it came to his journeyman's piece. So what does the future hold? “I definitely plan to do my master craftsman's certificate.” And the passion for carpentry runs in the family: Tom's brother Lucas is already in his second year of apprenticeship with us – perhaps the next extraordinary journeyman's piece will soon be created in our workshop. #nopressure

“I really didn't expect that. I've also received a lot of feedback from colleagues here internally. So, that's pretty crazy.”

Promoting talent – celebrating success
Tom's journeyman's piece shows what happens when craftsmanship, creativity and the courage to follow your own path come together. It stands for what defines us as a training company, explains his trainer Matthias Fark: “At Solarlux, we encourage talent and give our trainees the space to surpass themselves in their craft. The fact that Tom's project is receiving so much attention shows how much potential our young carpenters have and what can be achieved with the right determination.”
